Police are asking for the public's help in finding those responsible for an arson at a Waikato home.

Two people, including a child, were inside when someone lit a fire in the basement of a house on Glen View Avenue, Otorohanga, at 11.33pm on October 12.

In a post on the Waikato Police Facebook page, officers are appealing for any information that will help them solve the case.

"Extensive damage was caused and two persons inside, including a child were lucky to escape unharmed.

"A grey/silver 4 door sedan was seen leaving the address shortly after.

"Detective Constable Craig Lemin is looking for any information that could help with the investigation. You can contact him on 021 191 3151."
