Three teenagers have been arrested after carjacking a woman in Hamilton and fleeing across the Waikato to the Bay of Plenty.
All three teens aged between 14 and 16 were then involved in a police chase before they were later nabbed in Tauranga.
The incident began when the trio allegedly assaulted a woman known to one of them at a motel on Ulster St in central Hamilton, says Detective Mike Handley.
The woman, in her 50s, suffered minor injuries in the attack around 4.20am on Friday.
Mike says the teens - two boys and a girl - allegedly stole property from the woman and took off in her car.
Later that morning police in Tauranga were involved in a pursuit with the vehicle due to the driver's manner of driving.
A short time later police arrested all three "without incident". They have links to both Hamilton and Tauranga, he says.
They were taken into custody and were due to appear in the Youth Court in Tauranga on Friday.
