Arson suspected cause of Maketu house fire

A house fire in the Bay of Plenty is being treated as suspicious this morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Maketu at 3.30am.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern communications manager Daniel Nicholson says crews arrived to find the dwelling fully ablaze.

Three fire crews worked to extinguish the fire.

Daniel says a fire safety investigator is as the scene and the cause is currently being treated as suspicious.

Meanwhile, a fire investigator is at the scene of a motel fire in Rotorua

Fire and emergency were called shortly early this morning to a unit ablaze at Union Victoria Motel.

Daniel says there were no injuries and no one is missing.
