Weather set to clear for end of the week

The Bay of Plenty won't be having to deal with the wild weather for much longer as it's looking to clear later in the week.

It has been a pretty active day weather wise, for not only the Bay of Plenty but for the rest of the country as well.

There has been lots of thunderstorms and lightning strikes throughout the country, including the Bay of Plenty region, as well as heavy downpours.

'Unsurprisingly, the Kaimai Ranges, has properly gotten the wettest of the weather today, and has seem about 15mm through the ranges,” says MetService meteorologist James Millward.

'Whakatane Airport has seen 8mm and those storms are dropping intensity of about 10mm per hour through the region.”

For the rest of the evening, there is a band of thunderstorms sitting up in the Kaimai Ranges but as the evening goes on that will be easing to the east.

'Generally, things should be getting fine behind that,” says James.

'Everything is moving quite quickly to the east, so by this evening it should be pretty much clear skies for most of the Bay of Plenty.”

No weather warnings or watches are in place for the Bay of Plenty and James says it should stay that way for the rest of the week.

'Once this front goes through this evening, the weather should clear up,” says James.

'There might be some morning showers for the Bay of Plenty, before again, things start to clear up again in the afternoon, with some isolated showers hanging around.

'There will be some westerly winds about, but it should be a much nicer day tomorrow than it is today.”
