More than $50,000 has been raised for children at Tauranga Hospital.
Countdown Papamoa have been a part of the annual Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal for a few years now and this year, Countdown Papamoa raised $59,000 to go the Tauranga branch of the Bay of Plenty District Health Board.
The money raised will go towards funding much needed equipment for the hospital.
Group manager Phil Guilford says it's humbling and emotional to see the equipment in use.
'It's amazing to make a connection between the money we have raised and when the DHB put in equipment in use.”
Store manager Steve Green says 1.2 million dollars has been raised nationwide this year and $12 million in total since the start of the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal.
'It is about our team caring about the community and what happens in and around it. The staff live in the community so they care about what happens,” says Steve.
Acting chief operating officer BOPBHD Bronwyn Anstis says it is an extremely generous amount of money.
'We weren't expecting it to be this much, so we able to complete plans that we had for a therapeutic outdoor play area and more.
'We are now able to purchase pediatric monitors which are designed to monitor sick children continuously and eye and ear mobile testing kit, which will be used in the community for kids,” says Bronwyn.
