Weather Camera: I must throw a big bouquet to our manager at TVNZ. At last someone has had the internal fortitude to say.....”OK, the buck stops here.” He is providing a new camera and matching it up with whatever technology is needed. .All of which should have been organised in the first place....The scandal has been the delay in doing something.
Now I hope we can have something of which we can all be proud. That despite the texter who had no civic pride and claimed 'Who cares a rat's bottom!”.
Let's hope we now have a coverage that does not look like an old Silent movie....out of focus and jumping around all over the screen.
The second bouquet goes to Classic Flyers and all the miriad of helpers....particularly the 250 volunteers who handled a very large volume of traffic and people in a most orderly and efficient manner. One just had to see how the parking arrangements went and the efforts to make access and egress an easy and speedy exercise. Well done. Not only for the grand spectacle you presented, but the manner in which it was accomplished.
The brickbat goes to unfortunately the several yobbos both, male and female drivers who were so impatient to get in or out, that had no compunction in cutting across barriers or making three point turns in front of on-coming traffic. The yobbo (there are stronger words) that insisted on cutting across with his big red double cab ute, towing a great long trailer complete with his big boys toys of two red motor bikes on the back. Or the guy with the big van trying to do a 'U” turn to get back into another lane. .I know because I was there, and was given 'The Hawaiian” salute when I remonstrated with them. They had never been told 'no! You can't do that.”
Do we have to put up with these rotten apples in the barrel?
It was notable to see that all these offenders were of the 'I want it, and I want it now” brigade and oddly enough most of the volunteers of whom some put in two days on their feet to help and serve their community were of the post-baby boomers fraternity.
