Radio control racing by the Clippers

Radio control sailing, a new venture launching at Pilot Bay this summer, is at the Clipper Race open day at the Bridge Marina on Saturday.

For a gold coin donation people have the chance to race a member of one of the race crews around a short course next to the dock.

'We've got four brand new radio control Laser yachts, which we will be operating at Pilot Bay near the boat ramp over the holiday season,” says Stuart Pedersen, who is behind the venture.

'We'll be offering casual hire and short learn-to-sail courses, and every hour on the hour there'll be a ‘World Champs' race series with prizes to be won.

'But this weekend is just a chance for the public to have a quick go – and if they want, to challenge a genuine round-the-world racer to a quick ‘round the buoys' race.

'All proceeds will go to a local charity.”

The Clipper Race open day is free to the public and is 1-4pm on Saturday, December 3 before the race restarts on Sunday. The radio control sailing will run from 1.30pm.
