Update 4.15pm - Three people have been arrested following a pursuit near the Tauranga CBD.

A police media spokesperson says the pursuit was initiated just after 3pm.

"Police attempted to stop a car of interest on Harbour Bridge at about 3.10pm, but the driver fled.

"The driver then stopped on Spring St and all three occupants of the car got out and fled on foot.

"All three were located close by a short time later and are in custody."

Reports are coming in of a heavy police presence in the Tauranga CBD this afternoon.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news holtline says they saw police chasing a vehicle on Cameron Road.

"Other police cars were seen heading down Willow Street with the lights and sirens on."
