Bay of Plenty Police issued 109 fines following a "disappointing" operation.
The fines were for a range of offences including speeding, not wearing a seatbelt and driving in breach of a graduated licence conditions.
Eastern Bay of Plenty Police stopped more than 300 drivers at six different checkpoints in the weekend-long road policing operation.
Ten drivers were processed for drink-driving and 32 were found to be in breach of their graduated licence conditions.
'Speeding was one of the most common offences, with 24 drivers or riders detected exceeding the limit,” Eastern Bay of Plenty Road Policing Manager Ray Wylie says.
'It was particularly disappointing to see two motorcyclists well in excess of the speed limit given we've had six motorcycle fatalities in this area over the last four years.
'We know speed has the biggest impact on the outcome of a crash, whether you survive it or not, and that is why we won't stop talking about it.
'This weekend's operation was about preventing crashes and keeping all road users safe.
Something like putting on your seatbelt only takes two seconds and is a literal life saver.
'We would love to see everybody driving or riding sensibly and to the conditions every time they get behind the wheel or on their bike.”

..the sad limitations and biases are clear to all...speeding is commented by NZ Police for around 50% of the article , but..many more in breach of their own licence conditions, and, such emphasis on motorcyclists you would think they are actually a target!...wouldn't you?...anyway, the 'breach of licence conditions'..(which far outweigh any other offences reported)...mean what?..well, it means that drivers/riders don't actually give a rat's arse about the law in the first place and have no intention of complying under ANY circumstances..how do we change this?...errr....dunno....jus gotta target 'speeding eh!'..one day hopefully (as much as we are all aware excess speeding is an issue)..we can focus on all reasons for the abysmal (number of) fatalities and injuries on our roads, not just bloody "speeding"..!!
