Steamers players will be among those shaking buckets at the Rotorua International Stadium ahead of the team's Mitre 10 Cup clash with Manawatu tonight.

The BOP team is raising money for Blue September - the Prostate Cancer Foundation's annual national awareness and fundraising campaign.

More than 3000 Kiwi men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year and more than 600 will die – about the same number of women who die from breast cancer.

The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union's ‘Blue Do' will include players collecting donations at the gate, as well as running a blue filter over all of its social media.

Due to sponsor commitments the players will be wearing their regular kit but players went blue yesterday to encourage supporters to wear blue to the game.

A number of playing jerseys have been sold online and the proceeds from this and the gate collection will be presented to Prostate Cancer Foundation New Zealand CEO Graeme Woodside at half time.

Rotorua's Pukeroa Holdings Group will also donate $500 per converted try scored by the home team, with a maximum of $2000 they are hoping to donate.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation receives no government funding, relying instead on public generosity to help them spread the message for men to get regular checks, fund research that will improve diagnosis and treatment outcomes, and provide support for those who need it the most – the men and their families living with prostate cancer every day.

Tonight's game kicks off at Rotorua International Stadium at 7.35pm.
