When Te Puna Kindergarten committee members heard their centre would have to move, they decided not to dwell on it, but to get proactive.

Seven mothers from the kindergarten, who make up the committee, have created a cookbook titled Grounded in Goodness to help raise funds to pay for some of costs associated with the new facility.

Committee member Emma Ward says it's a true collaborative effort.

'Our kindergarten is having to move due to major roading developments in the area.”

She notes the potential Northern Link development as being one factor which has initiated the move.

'This may or may not be happening, but our kindergarten definitely is moving, to a site which is closer to the highway in Te Puna.

'Because the cost of the move is so high we don't have enough money in the budget to cover the whole build of the new centre, so we are currently in the process of fundraising.

'The kindergarten association is paying for the building and our fundraising will pay for the outdoor area. All of the money we raise is going towards this, for the children.”

Emma says there is about 55 families within the kindergarten community, with 40 children during a typical morning session and 20 children during an afternoon session.

Its staff is made up by four teachers, along with grounds keepers and other admin staff.

The 200-page cookbook is made up of more than 90 recipes, which have been shared from families within the kindergarten community.

'One of the mums in our fundraising committee is a graphic designer and so together with her help, all seven of us have pooled together to source recipes from all of the families and create this.”

She says printing costs associated with the cookbook have been covered completely by funding provided from a number of generous sponsors.

'We couldn't have been happier by the amount of support we received from those businesses and because it is now printed, we are ready to sell the cookbook.”

The whole process has been ongoing since January, says Emma.

'Between the committee and the families we cooked all of the recipes and photographed them – this took up a huge amount of time.”

The move is being anticipated for early 2019.

'We're all excited by the move, it's a brand new building and we're all looking forward to it, but it's a lot of work to have got to the point we're we are going to get the building and a lot of work to get to the point where we will actually get to move.”

Presales for the cookbook are running until October 15 and during that time each cookbook is being offered at a special price of $30.
