A short section of the Mauao track will be closed from Monday.

Tauranga City Council says a section of the base track heading towards the summit track - commonly known as the stone steps - will be closed for maintenance until August 31.

"A detour will be in place during this time.

"All other tracks will remain open and accessible while the works take place. The works will be completed by next weekend."
