Want to quickly earn up to six figures? That's the opportunity on offer if you land a career in Freight and Logistics and one that's well worth exploring at this year's Canvas Tauranga Careers Expo.

Dubbed the Freight Logistics Industry's Big Day Out, the showcase will be staged at the Canvas Tauranga Careers Expo this Friday August 10 and Saturday August 11, and presents a chance for students or anyone at any stage of their career to get up close and personal with the freight logistics industry.

Expo organiser Sue Boyne says the Freight Logistics Showcase will allow people to see the vast array of industries on offer that fall under the Freight Logistics banner.

'From inventory control to production supervision, customs brokering, warehouse management, dispatch and delivery or being a specialist driver that's just some of the careers on offer. It's such a diverse industry sector and the expo will be a great chance for people to truly understand the opportunities right now and in the future in this sector.”

Priority One Instep Manager Lyn Parlane says 'The Freight and Logistics industry is hugely important to the economic growth of the region so it is pleasing to see business and education collaborating to create a skilled logistics workforce.”

It's expected there'll be keen interest in the showcase from women at the expo. Toi Ohomai's most recent graduating class from the New Zealand Certificate in Commercial Road Transport Heavy Vehicle Transport Operator course featured a significant increase in the number of females.

Adrian Bowen, Group Manager – Road Transport & Warehousing at Toi Ohomai, says it's the most women they've had on the course at one time, with females making up half of the graduates.

'I've had really positive feedback from the companies these students have done work experience at. Their work is respected and their attention to detail has been commented on.”

The influx of women has been welcomed by Bay of Connections Freight Logistics Action Group chairman John Galbraith. 'It's fantastic to see women choosing a career in freight and this helps break down the stereotype that it's a job just for men”, Mr Galbraith says.
