Person injured in Maketu house fire

UPDATED 8.59AM: A man is in hospital following a house fire in Maketu this morning.

Firefighters from Maketu, Pukehina, Te Puke and Greerton spent most of the morning battling the house fire on Maketu Road.

Crews arrived at the scene around 2am and spent four hours battling the fire. The fire has now been dampened.

'The resident has burns to his hands and feet and is now in hospital,” says a Maketu Fire spokesperson.

'The house has been completely destroyed and the house is still under investigation by Fire Safety.”

Fire and Emergency northern communications shift manager Craig Daily says the dwelling was 'well alight” when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Firefighters from Maketu, Pukehina, Te Puke and Greerton spent most of the morning battling a fire which razed a house.

Crews were called to the blaze on Maketu Road around 2am.

Fire and Emergency northern communications shift manager Craig Daily says the dwelling was 'well alight” when firefighters arrived at the scene.

They spent the good part of four hours battling the fire, which was out just before 6.30am.

Craig says a crew is still at the scene dampening down hot spots.

A fire safety investigator is expected to arrive at the property this morning to determine the cause of the fire.
