Envirohub has launched their Zero Single Use Plastic Campaign at the Mount Enviro Festival.
The purpose of this campaign is to encourage these businesses to continue this journey by offering support, advice and information on changes they can make.
This campaign will create a community of like-minded businesses and will create a brand that customers can recognise and therefore can choose to support these businesses.
'We have had great feedback from businesses and customers from Saturday and believe this campaign will make a huge difference in the Bay of Plenty,” says project manager Liesel Carnie.
Thirty Two businesses on Mount Main St have already pledged to reduce their single-use plastics for the foreseeable future, with Envirohub planning to extend this to the entire Bay of Plenty Region.
'Mostly the businesses have been very open to the change and often have already taken their own steps to reduce plastic which we are blown away by.
"There was maybe 10 per cent of businesses approached that weren't interested. Of the ones that did sign up, there was only a few that may not aim to completely eliminate all of their plastic but every bit they reduce is a win in our view,” says Liesel.
'Everyone who attended the Mount Enviro Festival was really interested and excited about the changes Envirohub was aiming to make with the Zero campaign and loved our Sustainable Fashion Parade! We were overwhelmed by how many people voted for the People's Choice Award.
"It's great to be given these opportunities to contribute to these events and encourage others to help the environment.”
