Bones which were discovered near Papamoa beach earlier today, have been identified as sheep remains.
A police media spokesperson says a report was made at about 9.51am, when the bones were discovered in some dunes near Papamoa Beach.
'These were identified as being sheep bones.”
Police say animal bones are often discovered in dunes, but commend the person who reported the discovery.
'If anyone does locate bones they think may be human remains, they are encouraged to call police.
'Our informant did the right thing in this case.”
