Focus on mentors for small business

Increasing the presence of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise to help Tauranga businesses deal with Psa is at the top of Labour candidate Deborah Mahuta-Coyle's list.

The Tauranga electorate candidate for Labour visited Tauranga based businesses Zespri and Huka Pak on Wednesday to discuss assistance packages to deal with Psa.

'We are talking to Zespri about a package for growers, we are looking at what we can do to assist them and the workforce of the industry.”

Deborah says Labour would look to increase the presence of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise in Tauranga by making more grants available to businesses and increasing the number of mentors to work with business owners.

'We want to provide the right support for businesses, by making more mentors available.

'What people are telling us is they need more support around the growth of small and medium enterprises on a local level.”

Deborah says she will be able to provide more details on a package to assist businesses with Psa when Labour's economic and commerce policy is released next week.

Deborah also visited Merivale School on Monday, where she, and members of the Labour Party, assisted in creating a new garden at the school.

'This campaign is more about helping the community – in these low decile schools it is hard to get parents involved.”

Deborah says part of the $330 million fiscal update policy announced by Phil Goff last week will to go into funding early childhood education.

Deborah moved to Tauranga three months ago and says the biggest challenge facing her in the Tauranga electorate is National candidate and incumbent MP Simon Bridges.

'Simon is a great guy, but he is standing for the wrong party.

'We both share the same aims of growing the economy and making healthcare and education affordable, but we have different ways of achieving that.

'It's about making people know there is a big difference between Labour and National.”

Deborah will face off with other Tauranga candidates at the Matua residents association candidates' debate tonight at 7.30pm.

Here we go - Labours looting and pillaging off to a good start I see. - looking to bribe a few weak, immoral people with promises of other peoples cash. What you can do to assist them Deborah is keep out of other peoples busines. Stop taking their money, and let them spend their OWN money on developing their OWN business. The only reason for a middle man is so they can steal from Peter to give to Paul (with a bit skimmed off the top to pay the middle mans wages).
