Bill Bailey – a man who loves the wild

Bill Bailey is coming to Tauranga for the first time in September.

Sitting in the pools at Hot Water Beach in the Coromandel, seeing sea lions in Invercargill and horse riding in Piha, are some of the fondest memories Bill Bailey has of his previous times in New Zealand.

This time around the British comedian is looking forward to getting out on his paddleboard and enjoying the geological wonders of the Bay of Plenty.

Bill is bringing his Earl of Whimsy tour to Tauranga for the first time on September 24, when he performs at Baypark Arena.

He says the name of his tour is quite fitting.

'It's about getting through the uncertainty and baffling side of life with laughter.

'I have been called a lot of things, but the Earl of Whimsy seemed to be fitting as it has a British eccentricity to it.”

Bill's show promises to have his normal stand-up comedy and music, but will also have more than any other show before.

'It will be about history, my own personal ancestry and personal stories about my life.”

Talking to SunLive this morning, Bill says he is looking forward to coming to Tauranga as he likes to get to as many new places as possible.

He says Tauranga looks beautiful and he's interested to see the natural side of the region.

'The whole place is alive geologically. I love exploring the wilder side, and if there is a mountain or bay I will be happy.”

He recalls one time he went mullet fishing while on a previous tour here in New Zealand.

'We caught a lot of mullet. We cooked and ate it right on the beach. I just love to be surrounded by nature.”

Tickets to Bill's show are available through Ticketek.
