Synthetic drug accused deny charges

All defendants were remanded on bail until their next case review hearing on September 3.

Five people have denied their involvement in an alleged synthetic cannabis supply ring in the Bay of Plenty.

Two women and three men including Hira Noble, Tommy Hira Noble, Luana Noble, Michelle Te Paki and Michael Charles Lawrence, appeared at Tauranga District Court on Wednesday.

The defendants face a raft of charges relating to the distribution, manufacture, possession and supply of synthetic cannabis alongside further charges of money laundering.

All five defendants have entered not guilty pleas.

Their appearance follows their arrests as part of Operation Fauna, a police operation which launched in February and focusses on combatting the manufacture and sale of synthetic drugs within communities and preventing the immense social harm they cause.

All defendants have been remanded on bail until their next case review hearing on September 3.
