Rescuers who helped extract a man lost in the Coromandel Ranges, say he was in 'good spirits” despite his ordeal.

Search and rescue crews were called to the ranges near Thames to assist a man in his 50's, who was walking and became lost in the bush on Saturday.

The Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called in to winch the man from the bush.

'Police were in contact with him overnight and crew were called in to assist and winch extract the man in the morning due to the difficult location,” says a spokesperson for the rescue helicopter.

'The patient had all the correct gear with him, was in good spirits, and helicopter transportation to hospital wasn't required. Westpac 2 returned to base.”
