Guy Fawkes at the Omokoroa Boat Club will have a nautical theme this year as members take advantage of an opportunity to fire off expired marine flares.

The red parachute flares are not normally permitted to be fired, except in an emergency, but the boat club has cleared the event with officials.

The flare demonstration is on from 4.30-5.30pm Saturday, November 5 at the club rooms.

The afternoon is being advertised as a training day for club members who have never fired a flare and a means of safely disposing of expired flares.

'If you don't have any flares, come anyway as we may find you one or two, to let you get used to firing these deadly little beasts,” says club member Alan Roberts.
