Don McGlashan, the man famous for his Kiwi golden hits Anchor Me and Dominion Road, is bringing an intimate solo show to Tauranga.

McGlashan will bring his Free Flight NZ tour to Totara Street in Mount Maunganui on Thursday September 20.

He will be joined by Phoenix Foundation drummer and percussionist Chris O'Connor for some of the seventeen shows.

The tour's a boom for small town New Zealand - many of the concerts are off the beaten track at places like Leigh, Oamaru, Paekakariki, Barytown and Golden Bay, Rangiora and Akaroa. Dunedin and Christchurch miss out altogether.

McGlashan began his career as drummer and singer for 1980's group Blam Blam Blam. Their hit Don't Fight it, Marsha, It's Bigger Than Both Of Us won Song of the Year in the 1982 NZ Recording Industry Awards.

Since his Front Lawn musical/theatrical duo days and The Mutton Birds in the early 1990s, McGlashan has made three acclaimed solo albums.

His 2006 gospel anthem Bathe In The River - sung by Hollie Smith - has become one of the biggest NZ singles of all time.
