A long wait for tunnel

When I arrived in Tauranga in 1975 an engineer I was working with described how there was a plan to build a tunnel under the Maungatapu roundabout to service Welcome Bay. We are nearly there.

I would have thought in that time a plan was in place for the Hairini Bridge but it seems that the planners are still undecided.

In my opinion it should already be built. What is the point of the tunnel to sort out the congestion/frustration when the problem just moves down the road to the bridge? I trust we don't have to wait another 40 years!

Most likely yes, that will be the case as NZTA have been moved out of the way by TCC who are broke. As there are SOOOOO MANY more much more important other projects to borrow loots of money for that require attention ... that this jsut does not rate of any importance perhaps for 20-30 years al least. A new shiny massive glass tower is way more important, build a library in the CBD that is all but history for any use, more stadiums, lights at Bay Oval, drilling holes at Baywave again...
