Longer journey annoys

Re P Hickling's letter about SH2 (The Weekend Sun, May 18). Katikati to Tauranga is like Papamoa – a real growth area – but it is also a state highway and not designed to take the volume of traffic that uses it.

What annoys most people is that a journey from Omokoroa to the centre of Tauranga used to take 20 minutes two years ago and now takes over an hour at peak times.

There is a railway corridor along the same route. Why can't most of the goods from Auckland and Hamilton be carried on the railway?

There are good and bad drivers on every road, so according to P Hickling, every road in New Zealand that drivers have accidents on is the fault of drivers and not the road.

The majority of drivers on SH2 stick to speed limits if you can actually get to the speed limit, but if I go along the Eastern Link where I put cruise control on at 110kph, I am overtaken. It is the same on the expressway into Tauranga – I put cruise control at just over 80kph and am the slowest on the road.
