The goals flew in on a day in which only three Loaded WaiBOP Premiership games went ahead due to the involvement of a number of sides in the ISPS Handa Chatham Cup.

Melville United took advantage, sort of, to end the day top of the heap, while Tauranga Boys' College and Tauranga Blue Rovers both scored four to notch contrasting victories.

The ball hit the back of the net ten times at Gower Park, but in the end Melville and Comag Matamata Swifts couldn't be separated following a remarkable 5-5 draw.

After going a goal down early, the Swifts made most of the running during the first half to lead 5-2 at the change. Brad West had a hat trick under his belt inside 35 minutes, while Dayne Willemsen and Chris Walker also got in on the goal scoring action.

But Melville also pose a massive goal threat. Jordi Ditfort, Subesh Naidu, Sok Ven, with two, and Harry Coulsen scored the goals that first kept their team treading water, then helped them run down a tiring Matamata outfit.

In the end, a point was enough to lift Melville narrowly clear of Papamoa at the top of the Premiership table.

Tauranga Boy's College were the big movers of the day as their third win of the season brought them level with Papamoa on ten points.

The students who, like Papamoa, were relegation contenders in 2017, have started the season brightly and banged in another four goals, this time against an apparently struggling Otumoetai.

Their impressive 4-0 victory was built largely around Adam Davidson's hat trick, while Stanley Rust chimed in with his team's fourth.

Boys' College's success so far has been due largely to their goal threat.

They are the leading scorers in the league with 18 goals in five games, while Otumoetai, picked as one of the early favourites have scored nine of their eleven goals in one game, and barely registered in their other five.

The Hamilton Wanderers versus Tauranga Blue Rovers match appeared to be going according to the script after goals from Ache, Tommy Crane and Jared Bailey pushed Rovers into a comfortable lead. But rock-bottom Wanderers had other ideas as Jayden Gozdz, twice, and Maxwell Ericksen drew them level had them hopeful of picking up their first point of the season. Substitute Mike Barton, however, was on hand to head home and secure a 4-3 victory for the visitors, who move to seven points.

Five Premiership teams were in ISPS Handa Chatham Cup action. Waikato Unicol scored the most impressive victory, a 5-0 win over WaiBOP Championship leaders Ngaruawahia United, while Papamoa and Taupo also progressed to round 2.

Papamoa battled to a 3-1 win at Waiuku, while Taupo needed penalties to knock out the University of Auckland. West Hamilton United fell 2-1 at home to NRFL division 2 side Franklin United, while Te Awamutu went down 4-2 at Ellerslie, who play in NRFL division 1.

In the WaiBOP Championship, Taupo's Reserves jumped into second spot after a 4-2 win over Tauranga Blue Rovers' Reserves, while Waikato Unicol's Reserves suffered a surprise 4-0 reverse at Kawerau Sports.

Te Puke United picked up their second win of the season, 2-1 at home over Waharoa Transport Matamata Reserves, while Cambridge and Otumoetai battled out a goalless stalemate at Fergusson Park.
