Experiment with free transport

One has to feel for Aucklanders. All that extra money they are going to pay and probably little to show for it at the end. Some years ago Barcelona had the same traffic problems and some enlightened people decided to experiment with free transport for the city for a year. At the end of that time, when people had accepted the system, then they put a small charge on and the people stayed with the system.

Tauranga would be an ideal city to experiment with this idea. Free buses could run from Pyes Pa and The Lakes down Cameron Road and over to the Mount (Nos 1 and 2 as now).

Then people could walk or bring their cars to the bus route and catch the bus from there. This idea has been mentioned to some councillors but probably gets buried by the bureaucrats who never like anyone showing more intelligence than them.

Mind you, the people don't help themselves. Lots have Gold Cards but would never contemplate taking a bus.
