Hop on a bus

As a commuter from Katikati to Tauranga for work, I drive two days and take the bus the other three. It's my little contribution to address the overload of cars on our roads.

We usually have between six people and a full bus on varying days. However I've noticed that more often than not, the Omokoroa bus leaving downtown in the evenings can have as little as three people on it.

I've heard and read many complaints from the residents of this rapidly-growing suburb about how time-consuming, difficult and dangerous it is to get in and out onto SH2 and the build-up after this up to Whakamarama in the mornings, and reverse in the evenings. As I go past this line of traffic coming out of there, most cars with one person in them, I wonder ‘why aren't they using their bus?' Is it work hours that don't suit? Would they like another time option maybe? What would make it work for them? I agree with Martin Parkes (page 9, The Weekend Sun, April 6). 'We are all part of the problem and we are all part of the solution”. Come on Omoks, hop on a bus, you might make a new friend even!
