Bay of Plenty rugby mascot Hori BOP is getting ready to take a dip this weekend as he prepares to swim across the Waikato River.
Terry Leaming, aka Hori BOP, made a bet with mooloo fan Bill Arabin about Stephen Donald taking part in the All Blacks' Rugby World Cup campaign.
Hori BOP is swimming across the Waikato River this weekend.
Terry lost that bet when Donald was called in to play.
As a result of losing, Terry has to swim across the Waikato River, drink a can of Waikato Draught and eat a mooloo meat pie.
'I might drink the beer first and use the river water to wash the taste out,” he says.
'I'm just bloody glad I don't have to swim the entire length of the river – that was the original bet.”
The bet was made back in August during a club match in Tauranga.
Hori is anxious about Saturday's swim and looking for some local river knowledge or people to swim with him.
'I wouldn't have a clue the best place to start and finish.
'A couple of people have suggested starting a few hundred metres above Huka Falls – the cheeky bastards – and others have told me to watch out for taniwha.”
