Car crashes into power pole on SH36

Power is out to 2385 homes in the Pyes Pa area after a car smashed into a power pole on Pyes Pa Road.

A reporter at the scene says one car has crashed into a concrete power pole on the highway, near the southern intersection of Joyce Road.

"There is one fire truck here and one police officer taking details. One lane is partially blocked by the fire truck.

"The crash is off the road and the car is a right-off."

Powerco contractors are at the scene and are working to restore power in the area.

The power website says power went out at about 12.19pm and is estimated to be back on again around 4.30pm.

EARLIER:

Reports are coming in of a crash on Pyes Pa Road.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a car has crashed on the highway, between Tauranga and Rotorua, near Joyce Road.

The caller says no one appears to be injured, but power lines are reported to be down as a result of the crash.

Emergency services have been called.

According to Powerco, 2385 properties are without power in the Pyes Pa area.

The power website says power went out at about 12.19pm and is estimated to be back on again around 4.30pm.

Meanwhile, there are also reports coming in of a crash on the corner of Burrows Road and 14th Ave.

Why dont people stop concentrating on the rd. Proberbly txting like the half of them do u no when they are on there phones
