Bail has been granted for nine more people arrested as part of large scale drug operation in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

James Burgess, Rangi Burgess, Chad Chisholm, Noho Tuhaka, Inia Curry, Nicole Ryder, Arahia Parker, Vaina Drummond and Charlie Drummond have been remanded on bail until their next appearance, despite objections from the Crown.

The defendants were amongst 21 other people who appeared at Tauranga District Court on Tuesday.

The appearances follow several arrests as part of a six-month long investigation into organised crime and the distribution of illicit drugs in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Search warrants were conducted at 43 addresses in the Bay of Plenty and two in Gisborne and Hastings, as part of Operation Notus, which resulted in the arrests of more than 30 people last month.

More than $2 million worth of assets, including residential properties, vehicles, boats, and jet-skis were also restrained during the arrests.

All defendants will next appear in at Tauranga District Court on April 26.

Bail has also been extended until this date for Whitney Drummond, Mark Guptill, Michael Burrell, Jacqueline Parker, Demelza Chisholm and Anahera Iopata.

Further appearances continue at Tauranga District Court today.

Why bother arresting them if the courts are just going to let them out to carry on their crimes? The cops must be frustrated...
