The Waihi community will be the first in the Hauraki district to be able to connect to ultra-fast broadband as Chorus begins the rollout of their fibre network in May this year.

Fibre is also being rolled out at Waihi Beach at the same time.

Hauraki district Mayor John Tregidga says this is exciting news for the Waihi community.

'Being able to tap into ultra-fast broadband will bring huge benefits to the community and means we can all stay connected and competitive in today's digital world. Like all our towns, Waihi is growing quickly as more people realise the advantages of living and doing business here.”

Chorus will be holding two drop-in meetings in the area on April 18 designed for locals to pop by and ask questions around how and when they can connect to fibre. From 11am till 2pm experts will be at Waitete Orchard. Later in the day, from 3pm to 7pm, they'll be at the Farm Gate Deli and Kitchen at Waihi Beach.

John encourages locals to use this opportunity to clarify any queries or concerns.

'Many of you will have questions you'd like answered around how to get connected and concerns about what it may involve. With this in mind, I'd encourage everyone who wants to connect or find out more about fibre to head to these drop-in events.”

Chorus communications advisor Holly Cushen says the information event provides an opportunity for locals to have a chat about the fibre build, how to connect or anything else they would like to know about.

'Postcards will be in mail boxes with details about the event. We'd love to see everyone come along,” she says.

Following build completion in May next year, more than 5000 homes and businesses across Waihi will be able to connect to world-class fibre broadband.

'We are excited to be bringing world-class connectivity to Waihi,” says Chorus general manager of infrastructure Ed Beattie.

'Fibre provides the broadband equivalent of an autobahn right to the door of homes and businesses, and it will future-proof Waihi for the anticipated continued growth in data consumption for generations to come.”

Once the build work is complete, a postcard will be delivered to every property explaining how to connect and information is also available on the Chorus website.
