An Eastern Bay of Plenty man has been flown to hospital after suffering a stroke on Saturday.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched at 8.15am yesterday to Potaka, where a 40-year-old man had suffered a stroke at his home.

He was stabilised at the scene by paramedics before being flown to Whakatane Hospital in a serious condition.

On Friday night the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter flew two night missions.

The first was to airlift an 11-month-old girl from Rotorua Hospital to Starship Hospital at 8.30pm.

The girl required emergency surgery for a serious medical condition.

Not long after arriving back at base, the rescue helicopter was dispatched once again, this time to Minginui, where a young woman had delivered a baby and required urgent medical care. She was flown to Rotorua Hospital.

Both flights were undertaken with the use of night vision goggles.
