UPDATED 10.40AM: A fire service spokesperson says the callout to Mauao this morning was a false alarm.

The fire service is currently at the Mount Maunganui Surf Club after reports of smoke in the vicinity.

At least one fire engine is reported to be at the base of Mauao.

A caller to the SunLive newsroom says there were a 'few' fire trucks in the area to begin with.

A fire service spokesperson says they received a call this morning about smoke in the vicinity of the Mount, but had not yet located a fire.
