Baby uninjured in Opotiki crash

A six-month-old baby has escaped a serious crash in the Bay of Plenty uninjured.

While the baby was unharmed in the crash in Opotiki yesterday, two women were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency services were called to the two vehicle crash on State Highway 35 at Torere at about 11.15am.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called in to transport the two women to hospital.

A spokesperson for the rescue helicopter says two women and a six-month-old baby were travelling in a car that ran off the road and rolled.

'A 21-year-old woman suffered abdominal injuries and a 59-year-old woman suffered a serious leg injury, however, the baby was uninjured.

'The pair were stabilised at the scene before all three were flown to Tauranga Hospital.”
