Heavy trucks and machinery are removing the two containers in Papamoa.
The containers in the Waiariki Street area washed ashore on Wednesday after falling off the cargo ship Rena.
One of the containers contained timber which needed to be removed before the container could be moved.
Bulldozers are also being used to move the containers into position and a crane lifts them onto trucks.
