Community rallies behind volunteers

Three women have banded together to help provide food for the clean-up crews working to remove oil off the region's beaches.

Hannah Harward, Lee Faulkner and Megan Taylor have been collecting food since Wednesday.

Hannah Harward, left, Lee Faulkner and Megan Taylor have banded together to collect food supplies for the volunteers cleaning up oil.

Hannah says they are working on getting sponsors on board as well so they can buy more food in the future.

'I was in the baking mood on Thursday and thought I should give some away. I got on Facebook and Lee and Megan joined me.”

Lee, who is from Australia, says Tauranga people in Australia have also sent over money so they can buy more supplies.

'We contacted Maritime NZ and they were really stoked when we told them what we are doing.”

The trio will be distributing the food as people continue to clean up the beaches.
People wanting to donate their time or food can contact Hannah on 0226274835 or Lee on 0211364688.

You are certainly assisting those volunteers on the beaches who are hopefully making a difference to the cleanup operations

Brilliant work. The sort of fantastic efforts that show that some in the community are willing to be actively positive instead of moaning and complaining!

can I express the gratitude of our team working on the care of wildlife, towards this brilliant work. we have been based at Taylors Reserve and 2 sprightly ladies (Salvation Army?) have been providing hot soup and home cooking. All the team really appreciate the efforts of the community, thanks.
