Oil is spewing from one of the main fuel tanks on board the stricken container ship Rena.
Maritime NZ has confirmed 130 to 350 tonnes of oil leaked from the ship this morning due to a new leak in one of the main fuel tanks.

'We don't know the exact amount of oil that has leaked but it is coming from one of the main fuel tanks on board.”
Oil is continuing to leak from the ship heading in a south west direction and is expected to wash up on Mount Mauganui beach tomorrow.
The breach has been caused by movement of the ship on the reef overnight and further movement this morning.
Rough seas caused Rena to move from an 11 degree list to a five degree list overnight, after part of the Astrolabe Reef crumbled under the front of the ship.
A spokesperson from Maritime NZ says rough sea conditions continue to prohibit the pumping of fuel from Rena, with the Awanuia now in port after sustaining damage during pumping operations overnight.

Geeee really now let be think about what could have caused that to happen??? DUH !!! Hmmmm maybe a few waves and a rock punching a hole in the hull about where the fuel tank is. Lets see now was that always going to happen? Yes indeed especially when six days have gone by and only a minor amount of 10 tonne of 1900 tonnes of fuel have been removed. This is not rocket science lads, if the fuel stays on there then the sea will deal with it one way or another sooner or later.

Then we are still awaiting the arrival of the of anyone useful to do something other than do a fly over from Wellington to do an official sight seeing trip in a chopper.
