Former Bay of Plenty Regional councillor Andrew Von Dadelszen flew over the Rena stuck on the Astrolabe Reef today to survey the oil spill with Sun Live.
Andrew says while the 236-metre container ship is 'releasing a lot of oil into the water” he is pleased to note that Motiti Island appears to be safe at the moment. But he feels authorities should have responded faster to contain the spill.
'With the weather being so good at the moment containment to me would have been a very sensible option.”
