A man accused of importing ephedrine, and possessing methamphetamine ‘P', for supply was further remanded in custody when he appeared in Tauranga District Court today.
Gary John Read, 44, consultant is charged with possessing ephedrine for supply, two charges of importing ephedrine, one with his daughter Kahsharn Oriini; possessing methamphetamine for supply and conspiring with Kahsharn Oriini to import ephedrine.
When he appeared today he was further remanded in custody without plea until October 28 on all charges.
His counsel, Paul Mabey QC, says he will not be making a bail application at present.
Gary Read and his daughter Kahsharn were arrested along with Jade Brady as a result of a search warrant executed by the police armed offenders squad on September 28.
The arrests follow a joint investigation conducted by the Organised and Financial Crime Agency of New Zealand, police and the New Zealand Customs Service.
The investigation concentrated on the importation of pre-cursor chemicals used in the manufacture of Class A drugs.
During the accuseds' appearance, the court heard how 1.825kg of ephedrine was seized by police along with a plastic container containing seven ounce bags of a Class A drug with a street value of about $70,000 to $150,000.
Kahsharn and Jade have been remanded on bail and are due to appear at a registrars hearing on October 19.
