Power was cut to 981 customers in Welcome Bay after trees fell on power lines.
Powerco Network Operations Manager Phil Marsh says power went out at 8.46pm.
Contractors worked to restore the supply, with electricity progressively restored by 2am.
Powerco's electricity networks are in Western Bay of Plenty, Thames, Coromandel, Eastern and Southern Waikato, Taranaki, Whanganui, Rangitikei, Manawatu and the Wairarapa. Its gas pipeline networks are in Taranaki, Hutt Valley, Porirua, Wellington, Horowhenua, Manawatu and Hawke's Bay.

It's a small wonder that we have power at any stage due to the lack of line maintenance that is carried out! They are far too busy making a profit!
