A serious crash north of Katikati has sent one person to hospital this evening.

Three cars were involved in the accident, which occurred on State Highway 2 near McMillan Road.

A police spokesperson says they were called to the scene at 5.37pm.

"One person has been seriously injured and has been taken to Tauranga Hospital. The Serious Crash Unit has also been advised."

She could not say whether the road is closed, although a SunLive reader has emailed saying both lanes on State Highway 2 are currently blocked.

A dead straight road! Dangerous? Rubbish - it is the driver 90% of the time! How could this anything else?
