Marina death under investigation

A body was found in the water at the Tauranga Bridge Marina today.

A man has been found dead in the water at the Tauranga Bridge Marina.

Marina manager Tony Arnold says the deceased man had just got his boat back into the water after working on it for a long time.

“Him and a couple of his mates have been working on the boat down there,” says Tony.

“He's a local man. He's done some work for us in the past with what he does.

“He's well liked, always happy.”

The powerboat the man and his mates were working on had been a project of theirs for about five years says Tony.

Friends were concerned when he wouldn't answer phone calls this morning, which was out of character. The body was later found at around 10.40am.

Police say they are continuing to work to identify the body and establish the surrounding circumstances.

What are your thoughts on the council’s proposal to increase rates 40 per cent over the next three years?

Good, it will help pay to revitilise the city
Not good, rates are high enough now
I’m ok with an increase, but maybe not such a big one
