State Highway 25 in the Coromandel is unlikely to be open until Thursday, says police.
A large slip is blocking both lanes of the highway, near Kitahi Road, close to the summit.
In a statement released this morning, police says the highway is still closed and is 'unlikely to reopen until at least Thursday”.
'Diversions are in place at the intersection with SH25 in Kopu, and at the Whangamata/Tairua intersection with SH25.
'We thank motorists in advance for their patience.”
NZTA says work is underway but the slips remains unstable.
The roading organisation is expected to provide an update at about 2pm.
UPDATE: Work is well underway but slip remains unstable so #SH25A remains CLOSED. Next update by 2pm ^TP
