A man who fell through a roof and landed head first on the deck below has been flown to Tauranga Hospital.

The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Matakana Island yesterday after the man had fallen.

'A 67-year-old local man had fallen through the roof of his porch while doing to home maintenance,” says pilot and base manager Liam Brettkelly.

'The man landed head first on the deck below. He was able to raise the alarm.”

Liam says the Matakana Island first responders responded, stabilised the man and called for the rescue helicopter to transport the man to Tauranga Hospital.

'His condition was serious but stable.”
