It's 17 degrees in the water and 12 degrees in the open air at dawn, rising to about 17 degrees by 2pm.

An overnight low of 6 degrees is expected.

There are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities on today including Paradox at Tauranga Art Gallery and the seven NZ Waka teams training in Pilot Bay all weekend.

They will be representing NZ in Tahiti from June 27-30.
