An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a fire which ripped through a Greerton house overnight.

The Fire Service received multiple calls to the fire on Greerton Road and 7.20pm.

While the cause is yet to be determined, Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jaron Phillips says it's being treated as suspicious.

'Police have been called and they are investigating. A fire safety officer was called to the scene last night and will return this morning.”

Jaron says once the fire was contained, firefighters spent around five hours dampening down hot spots.

'The house was well involved when firefighters arrived at the scene. All people were accounted for and escaped safely.”

Fire risk management officer Luke Burgess is conducting the investigation and says the building involved in a single storey dwelling.
