Bay of Plenty building excellence has been recognised at the annual regional awards, with the Supreme award going to Shaw Builders for a Matua executive home.
The annual Registered Master Builders House of the Year and RMB Commercial Projects Awards function saw 26 properties recognised with 37 awards across 12 categories.
Judge Clive Barrington described the Supreme winning property as 'very sharp and modern house with exquisite detailing, finished with real skill on a demanding hill site”.
The supreme winner of the year.
The large two-level home (373 square metres) was designed to maximize sprawling views across to Matakana Island and incorporates a large deck with a lap pool to offer livable indoor and outdoor spaces. The Supreme winner also won the $1 million - $2 million new home category, and the Pink Batts Ultra Efficiency Award.
Shaw Builders also won the $600,000 to $1 million new home category for a large Mount Maunganui property (320 square metres) that combines spacious living area, three bedrooms and bathrooms and a large deck area.
Tauranga's Asset Homes took out two gold awards and the supreme title for two new homes in the $450,000 - $600,000 category. The $350,000-$450,000 new home category was also dominated by Tauranga builders with Harwood Homes taking a gold medal, along with Kuriger Builders which also took out the category title.
One of two gold winners for Asset Homes.
The supreme commercial and education project awards went to Hawkins Construction for Papamoa College. Judge Paul Williams describes the development as taking the school facilities to a 'new level”.
'Walking in the front entrance of Papamoa College was like walking into a five star hotel.
'The builder faced considerable time pressures and budget constraints, but he was innovative with his resources and the outcome was remarkable.”

I would not class Papamoa College as a Five Class Hotel entrance, most five class hotels you drive up to the entrance , Papamoa College works on no vehicle other than at driveway and the entrance is very plain.
