UPDATED 10am: The truck blocking SH2 near Te Puna has been re-started and driven away from where it was blocking the lane between Te Puna and Mr McGregor's Fruit Shop.

The truck was able to be driven away and the lane is clear, with traffice flowing, say Tauranga Police.

A truck has broken down on the rise on State Highway 2, just before Mr McGregors Fruit Shop south of Te Puna this morning.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says traffic is backing up.

The caller says the truck is in the Tauranga bound land on the rise between Te Puna and McGregor's, and no one can get past.

'There's a policeman standing there, but they are going to need a heavy haulage truck to get the truck out of there, it's a forty footer.”

Motorists are being advised to expect delays until the road and traffic is cleared.
