UPDATED 1.52PM: Two people are reported to be in the water after a boat capsized in near Thames.

The Rescue Coordination Centre were notified of a water rescue in the Firth of Thames at about 1pm.

A spokesperson from the centre says it's a police-led operation.

"A boat has capsized near Kaiaua in the Firth of Thames. Two people are in the water.

"There was no beacon activation, which means an operation was launched locally."

Reports are coming in of a overturned boat near the Thames this afternoon.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a boat has overturned in the Firth of Thames.

The caller says two people are reported to be in the water.
