A shallow earthquake is being reported in the Bay of Plenty tonight.
People have taken to Facebook saying they felt it, with one person saying "it was a wee one but a bit spooky".
According to GeoNet, the earthquake registered 2.3 on the Richter scale.
It was 7km deep and hit 5km south of Rotorua.

I didn't feel any earthquake tremor here in Tauranga so it must have been very weak
Heard it before we felt it
